Women's Exams in Remote GuyanaWomen's health services are desperately needed in developing countries, but for families struggling merely to survive, luxuries such as OB/GYN checkups and screenings for cervical and breast cancer are simply not a possibility. As a result, women sicken and die from manageable conditions. For example, cervical cancer is preventable through screening, yet the indigenous women of Guyana have never been screened due to the extreme difficulty encountered in reaching their remote villages -- until The Remote Area Medical® (RAM) Volunteer Corps began its outreach into the most hard-to-reach locations. A donation of $58 funds an OB/GYN exam and lab tests to screen for cervical cancer for a women in a remote area of Guyana.
