Help keep endangered wolves alive! Wolves were once common throughout North America, but were killed in most areas of the United States by the mid-1930s. Today, their range has been reduced to Canada and a few specific regions of the United States. In places like the Northern Rockies and the American Southwest, the most common cause of death for wolves is conflict with people over livestock losses. While wolf predation on livestock accounts for less than 1% of livestock losses each year, when wolves do prey on livestock it can mean certain death for a wolf -– or even an entire pack.

Defenders of Wildlife is leading critical on-the-ground efforts to reduce livestock losses, foster goodwill among the ranching community and save the lives of countless wild wolves. In cooperation with ranchers, biologists, and federal land managers, Defenders of Wildlife has developed several effective, life-saving strategies to prevent needless wolf deaths.

$16.00 funds two bales of hay, which provides food for livestock on an emergency basis and makes it possible to move them away from known wold dens. By decreasing the contact between wolves and livestock, needless deaths are avoided.

$25.00 helps reimburse a rancher for a sheep, cow, or other animal that has been lost to a wolf. Reimbursement helps build tolerance for wolves and local support for wolf recovery.

$30.00 helps fund the installation of Turbofladry, a simple red flag system which discourages wolves from crossing into livestock pastures.

$40.00 helps fund a wolf telemetry receiver to prevent wolf/livestock interactions. With the use of the receiver, ranchers and herders can track the location of a wolf pack and avoid areas where conflicts are likely to occur.

$68.00 helps fund a trained guard dog to help protect livestock. Guard dogs alert humans to the presence of predators in the area, and in some cases they help keep wolves away entirely.
