Help Raise an Orphaned Bear Cub - From $15
Help raise an orphaned bear cub and prepare it for its eventual release back into the wild!
Baby bears are intensely dependent on their mothers. All too often, the mothers are killed by poachers, automobiles, or natural disasters, leaving the orphaned cubs before they are prepared to fend for themselves.
The Northern Lights Wildlife Society, located in Smithers, British Columbia, Canada, takes in injured and orphaned bear cubs with the eventual aim of rehabilitation and release back into the wild. Upon their release, the bears are tracked via radio collar and GPS to make sure they are successful in their new lives and to create sustainable rehabilitation standards for bear cubs.
The staff at Northern Lights is expert in bear rehabilitation, having given a home to 131 black bears, 2 Grizzly Bears and 2 Kermode bears (as of January 2008). With many other shelters unable to work with such large animals, Northern Lights has become a last refuge for bears from all over British Columbia. With the support of IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), The Vancouver Foundation and The Public Conservation Trust Fund, Northern Lights has been expanding its facilities to handle the rising numbers of cubs in its care.
You can help. Purchase of this Gift That Gives More™ cares for an orphaned bear cub at The Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter. Choose to help by funding one week ($15.00) or one month ($60.00) of care.
The Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter in Smithers, British Columbia, is dedicated to giving injured and orphaned wildlife a second chance at survival. A haven for bears, moose and deer, Northern Lights also accepts other mammals, and has become an expert in bear rehabilitation. With a proven track record of raising and releasing wild animals without causing them to become overly used to humans, Northern Lights is a last refuge for wildlife in need of help.
